Firstly sprouting requires optimal weather than any other factor for perfectness. It shouldn’t be too hot or too cold to make your sprouts at home. This is why places with right amounts of humidity are the best for growing many crops. However ragi is a crop that doesn’t need too much of water like rice but however this does not mean it requires low water for sprouting.

So how should you prepare for sprouting ?

  1. To sprout ragi first wash it thoroughly without any mud or other particles. Washing at least 4–5 times is advisable. This step is really mandatory as any other foreign particles can cause spoil the ragi while sprouting itself. This is why many see fungus in the sprouts.
  2. Soak the ragi exactly in 3 times of water for about 8–10hrs depending on your weather. (If you live in hot climate 6hrs is also fine).
  3. After 8–10hrs it important to wash again the grain twice and then transfer into a clean white cloth. (White cloth allows right amount of light to pass through).
  4. Wet the cloth with water and tie it very tightly such that no air goes into it.
  5. Every 6hrs (if very hot climate for 5hrs) wet the cloth without opening it, but however if you live in cold climate it is must to open it and check for every 8hrs and then wet the cloth.
  6. After 3–4days of this process, you will see the well nourished sprouts which delight your heart for sure.

Happy Sprouting….
